SERGIO BOOTS

Sergio Boots born in Rome on March 15, 1957. Passionate about cinema and entertainment from the very beginning, especially soundtracks and visual effects, he made short films in his youth that were real experiments in special effects. He would draw great inspiration during the development of his career from events such as the moon landing, films such as Star Wars and A Space Odyssey, the cinema of Dario Argento and already established special effects artists such as Ray Harryhausen, Dick Smith, Stan Winston, Tom Savini and Carlo Rambaldi, with whom he would collaborate in what would be the Maestro's last work: the spectacular musical of "The Divine Comedy".

The first films he took part in, in parallel with the medical studies he undertook after high school, were “Jazz Band” (1978) and “Le strelle nel fosso” (1979), both by Pupi Avati, for which he created props. He also created stop-motion sequences for “Assassinio al cimitero etrusco” by Sergio Martino (1982). After abandoning his medical studies to pursue his dream of being a special effects artist, he began to work professionally in the cinema because, having made his mark with these early works, Dario Argento called him to create the make-up for Phenomena and the creatures for Demons and Demons 2.

He then began a long artistic partnership with Lamberto Bava, who would involve him in all his most important projects, both cinematographic and television. He returned to work with Dario Argento for Opera and then with Michele Soavi for La chiesa, La setta and Dellamorte Dellamore.

In this way his fame reaches international levels. Furthermore, his animatronic creations remain the only ones made in Italy for years. In 1995 with the film “La Sindrome di Stendhal” he is the first in Italy to create digital effects on cinematographic film. Today he is one of the most important creators of special and visual effects of international fame. Today he is also known for his work as a director and producer, an activity that he carries out in parallel with his work as a special effects artist.
